Hiring the right people is essential to planning your dream wedding. Planning for your big day can turn into a big nightmare if you choose the wrong vendors. You only get one chance to have the perfect day, so you must hire people you feel comfortable with and be confident they will deliver as promised.
This can be a daunting task and it is normal for couples to feel overwhelmed and stressed or even confused on where to begin. Who do you trust? Where do I go for advice? How do I find the right people? These are just a few questions you might be asking yourself.
You have entered new and foreign territory, it’s not every day you plan a wedding. Planning should be fun, it should not feel like you are stuck in the Twilight Zone.
Here are a few tips to help you find the perfect vendors for your wedding day –
- Do some homework –
- Research the internet or talk to friends who’ve recently been married. Have an idea of what you like and don’t like. Wedding websites and chat rooms can be a great resource. This way when you meet with a wedding professional you’ll be able to ask better questions.

- Meet with them –
- I strongly suggest a face to face meeting with them. Many times during a meeting you can get a true sense of what working with them will be like. Are they upbeat? Do they show a genuine sincerity of wanting to help you achieve the dream of your perfect day? You can get a true sense of their personality and professionalism during a meeting.
- Ask Questions –
- A true professional wedding vendor should welcome questions. Make sure you get clear and concise answers. If you don’t understand be sure to ask them to clarify for you. Again, this is new for you and they should understand that you might have many questions regarding the details of a wedding.
- Actively Listen –
- This means listen to more than just their responses. Are they passionate about what they do? Observe body language and nonverbal communication. Do you feel they are sincere or just trying to make a sale?
Questions to ask –
- How much experience do you have?
- How much do you cost?
- How much is your deposit?
- What specifically is included in the cost?
- Do you use a contract?
- What happens if I cancel? What happens if you cancel?
- Are there any additional or hidden fees?
These are just a small handful of basic questions you can ask. Please note if the vendor does not use a contract - RUN. This should be used to protect the client and the vendor. That should immediately throw up a red flag.
